Alhamdulillah, we had a very good start last Sunday. Many thanks to our very dedicated and awesome Teachers and Admin Staff for all the preparations. Many thanks also, to students, parents, and volunteers for providing very helpful feedback… this helps with our continuous improvement goal.
This update includes:

School reminders
Drop-off: All students to enter by 10:40 am and exit from Gate of Sadiq (a) Door 6; note that the driveway will be blocked to cars for safety reasons so students will need to walk to Door #6. After entering the building:
– Grade 1-3 students go to classes on main floor.
– Grades 4+ Girls & Grade 4/5 Boys to use stairwell #1 (near gate 1) to go to 2nd floor.
– Boys in grades 6-12 to use stairwell #5 (near gate 5) to go to 2nd floor.
Pick up:
– Grade 1-3 classes end at 2:15 pm… pickup child(ren) from main floor classroom.
– Grades 4-12 classes end at 2:30 pm… pickup child(ren) from Atrium on 1st floor near Door #6. Arrange a meeting spot with your child(ren).
Volunteers have other commitments too, so please pick up children latest by 2:40 pm. After 2:40 pm, parent will need to enter from Door #3, and come to 2nd floor to sign out the child.
Early pickup: parent to send a note for Teacher and go to Coordinators’ desk for pickup; for safety reasons, parents cannot go directly to the classroom.
Planned Student Absence: Send an e-mail to absence@al-haadi.ca, cc: the class email ids.
Dress code: Boys – long sleeves & long pants; baligha girls: head covering and abbaya; see additional info in Student Planner.
Supplies & Lunch: please review the guidelines in Student Planner, pack writing supplies and a healthy peanut/ tree nut free lunch to avoid impacting students with allergies; Tree nuts includes cashews, almonds, etc. Nutella and sesame seeds are also not allowed.
Cellphones: Students are not allowed to use cellphones between 10:45 am – 2:30 pm. If you have an urgent message for your child, during these hours, call the office line at 905-695-1587. Teachers will keep the phone until end of classes if a student does not adhere to the no cellphone use policy.
Google Classrooms are used for announcements, lesson material, and assessments. Invites to Google Classrooms (GC) have been sent for all students. Student e-mail id was invited if it was provided during registration; if not, invite has been sent to parent’s gmail id. Please ensure you/your child accept the invite as soon as possible to read Teacher’s announcements, etc. If an invite hasn’t been received, check in spam/junk folder.
If you need to change the e-mail id used for GC invite, please do both of the following:
- Send a request to the Teacher via class e-mail id, xyz@al-haadi.ca, where x= D for Dinyat or Q for Quran, y=grade, and z=A or B per registration confirmation e-mail. E.g. d3b@al-haadi.cais for Dinyat Grade 3, class B, and q7a@al-haadi.ca is for Quran Grade 7, class A. Subject: “GC Invite change”. Include the student’s full name, current email id, new e-mail id to be invited. We can only invite one e-mail id per student.
- Update parent/student record in parents portal (al-haadi.ca) by clicking on Registration and going through the screens to update family/child info.
Textbooks/Storybooks:
Grades 1-4: A storybook will be loaned inshaAllah, starting Sept. 17. Please return book on a weekly basis so student can be loaned a new storybook.
Grade 5 & 6: Tarbiyah Band C Student Guide will be loaned inshaAllah, starting Sept. 24th.
Grades 2-6 students who have not returned loaned book from last year will not be loaned another book until it is returned or replacement fee is paid to Coordinator ($10 per storybook, $15 per Student Guide).
Student guides for Grades 7-12 and Quran Explorer books for Tafseer/Hifd will be provided for in class use only and available online for weekday use.
Students are requested to bring copy of Quran Manuals and Quran Iqra 3 Tajweed Rules books which were provided last year as they can be re-used this year. This will help reduce costs and helps our environment.
Islamic Fundamentals test for Grades 5-12
The Islamic fundamentals test is to be completed by all Grades 5-12 students to ensure basic level of Islamic knowledge, which is normally covered in Grades 1-4. Teachers are reviewing the basics on Day 1 and 2, and lesson material is also available in the Dinyat Google Classroom as well as Student Planner posted on www.al-haadi.ca so parents can help child(ren) to learn the basics.
- Grade 12 students will write the test in class, on Sunday, Sept 17.
- Grades 5-11 students will be assigned the test via Google Classrsoom with a due date of Sunday, Sept. 24. Parents are requested to set aside about 45 min sometime this week and supervise the child(ren) to do the test via Google Classroom. Note that this is a closed book test and child should do it without any assistance. Students need to ‘turn in’ the test via Google Classroom when completed.
- Passing mark is 80% + for Grade 12 (Youth Forum Graduation requirement) and 60% + for Grades 5-11. Students who don’t demonstrate knowledge of the basics will inshaAllah be provided support during the year and will be retested.

Sept. 17: Quran recitation assessments Grades 1-11 and class re-assignments based on recitation ability
Sept. 15-23: Tarbiyah Digital Portal (TDP) logins sent to students of Grades 5-12.
Sept. 17: Islamic Fundamentals test for D12 (in class)
Sept. 23: Sign up opens for optional Term 1 Pizza lunch program (Oct. 15 – Jan.)
Sept. 24: Islamic Fundamentals test due via GC online for Grades 5-11
Sept. 24: Mailing list will be refreshed to remove parents who have not registered children for 2023-2024
Oct. 1: Milad un Nabi celebration for students during lunch break
Oct. 1: Parents Info session & meet & greet teachers 10:45 am – 1 pm.
Oct. 1: Sign up closes for Term 1 Pizza lunch program
Oct. 8: Closed for Thanksgiving Public Holiday
Oct. 15: Pizza lunch program begins
